“Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has found an identity as a brutal fighter in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another….

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: it seems Qhuinn has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young. It’s hard for Blay to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. And Qhuinn needs to come to terms with some dark things before he can move forward…

Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions, but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn learns the true meaning of courage, and two hearts meant to be together finally become one. ”

There have been hints at this book for three or four books now. I have been shipping it hard. I want this to happen. Problem is I forgot that Ward was writing it and has little to no understanding of gay men. So instead of this being a really touching, tragic love story I just felt like yelling “USE LUBE”, “NOT ALL GAY MEN ARE SWITCHES”, and “THE ANUS NEEDS STRETCHING GOD DAMNIT”.

Quinn has one blue eye and one green, so he is a freak in the vampire world. So teamed up with a chosen they try to have a baby. The chosen starts to miscarry so Payne is called in and saves the day. I don’t even care that I just spoiled that for you. If you are still reading this series you either have no taste or you are stuck in the train wreck, or both like me.

Blay is dating Quinn’s cousin and they are happily together, but oops the cousin dumps him after helping the king get Quinn into the brotherhood because he knows that Blay and Quinn are in love. How much more perfect could you get? That is something I could get behind. Problem is the author just goes crazy from there and makes it so unreadable and awful that I just can’t care about them. I try not to blame the author or bash them, but come on. Ward you had so much potential and you have so many people addicted.

I am so tired of this series. I am glad the library doesn’t have any more of these books so I can finally stop reading them.
